Zulema Carrejo Delgado, age 66, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on Friday August 2, 2024, at Mill City Senior Living in Faribault following an extended illness. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born into humble beginnings on November 24th, 1957, in San Antonio, TX, the daughter of Oswaldo and Margarita (Torres) Carrejo. Zulema faced many challenges throughout her life. Despite lacking formal education, she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience, overcoming every obstacle that was put in front of her. She started working at the tender age of 9 years old, as a migrant worker throughout the southern part of the United States well into her young adult life. She went from working as a housekeeper in an apartment building and moved up into property management in Texas, working as a supervisor in factories in Minnesota, ending her career at Evergreen Estates in Faribault. Her life's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the beauty of an indomitable spirit.
Zulema had a heart of gold, always ready to help others, especially those who were unable to help themselves. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she found great fulfillment in making a difference in the lives of those around her. Whether it was through community involvement, translating, or simply offering a shoulder to lean on, she embodied the true spirit of compassion.
She was known for her vibrant personality, always dressing up and wearing makeup with a flair that was uniquely hers. Her sense of style and love for life were infectious, bringing color and joy wherever she went. She loved playing bingo, and spending time with her family and friends.
Family was at the heart of everything Zulema did. She is survived by three children, Michele Lane (Peter), Monica Maciel (Enrique), and Antonio Torres (Nancy); She adored her nine grandchildren Feliz, Essie, Ricky, Brie, Angelique, Antonio, Elsie, Alyssa, and Richard, four great grandchildren Cody Jr. Ivory, Karalyn and Leo; who brought immense joy and laughter into her life.
She also shared a deep bond with her brothers and sisters, Oscar Carrejo, Jose Angel Carrejo, Victor Abel Carrejo, and Mary Elizabeth Carrejo; always offering love, support, and a listening ear. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit, love, and wisdom will continue to inspire and guide us.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oswaldo and Margarita; brother, Mario Torres Carrejo; and sisters, Diana Torres Carrejo, and Rosalinda Carrejo.
