William E. “Bill” Von Ruden, age 74 of Faribault, MN, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019 at his home following an extended illness.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive in Faribault with Fr. Brandon Theisen officiating. Interment will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N. in Faribault on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to services.
William Ervin, the son of Lawrence and Hildegard (Rech) Von Ruden, was born on September 3, 1944 in Morristown, MN. He attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1962. Later he would attend Mankato Business School for accounting and graduated in 1971. Not one to sit inside at a desk, William then went to bricklaying school in St. Cloud. On October 18, 1986 he was united in marriage to Catherine Varley in Kilkenny, MN. Bill worked as a bricklayer for 25 years for several construction companies in Minneapolis and Northfield until an injury in 1989. Bill enjoyed woodworking, playing poker, golfing, RV camping and traveling. He especially enjoyed time spent at the lake with family and friends.
William was able to fix most things, passionate about recycling and repurposing. He will be remembered for his kind heart, a quick smile and humility. Uncle Bill was especially loved by his many nieces and nephews for attending their sporting events and other activities.
He is survived by his wife Catherine Von Ruden of Faribault; by seven siblings, Henry Von Ruden of Faribault, Gerald Von Ruden of Grand Rapids, MN, Patricia Gretz of Lakeville, MN, Marcella Von Ruden of Faribault, Nancy Chappuis of Faribault, Terri (Dennis) Brady of Medford, MN and Kathy (Arnie) Johnson of Outing, MN: by his brother-in-law, Ray Sammon of Faribault and by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Caroline Sammon, two sisters-in-law, Kay Von Ruden and Jan Von Ruden, brother-in-law, Lawrence Chappuis, nephew B.J. Johnson and by his father and mother-in-law, Francis and Eleanor Varley.
