William D. Catlin, age 95 of Elysian, died on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Janesville Nursing Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 17th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Elysian with Fr. Michael Ince, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will be in the St. John The Baptist Cemetery in Minnesota Lake. Visitation will be held on Monday morning for one hour prior to services, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Elysian. Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home and Crematory of Janesville is handling arrangements. William "Bill" Catlin, son of William and Anna (Lutz) Catlin, was born on June 30, 1914 in Minnesota Lake, Minnesota. He was a 1931 graduate of Minnesota Lake High School. After high school Bill worked in Minnesota Lake for O.W. Hamann, then G.A. Beske. He was united in marriage to Marie Schneider on April 16, 1942. That same year Bill entered military service in the U.S. Army, and served his country during WWII. Following his honorable discharge in August of 1943, he returned home where he operated a blacksmith shop in partnership with John Kensok; operated (founded) the Minnesota Lake Ready Mix Company in partnership with M.W. Fischer; and worked for Don Bohm until retiring. Bill and Marie then moved to Elysian where Bill enjoyed fishing and working in his shop on odd jobs for neighbors and friends. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Elysian, American Legion Post #287 in Minnesota Lake, and a retired member of the Minnesota Lake Fire Department, having served as chief for 27 years. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie, and his stepson, Jim Schneider; by his three brothers and one sister.
