Walter T. Sobrak, age 90, of Northfield, MN passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Dominic, 104 Linden St. N, Northfield, with Father Frank Fried officiating. Interment will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.
Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to services.
Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.
Walter Thomas, son of Thomas and Clara (Lajenuesse) Sobrak, was born in Faribault on July 27, 1929. After growing up in Faribault, Walter served in the United States Navy. After he was discharged from the Navy, Walter was united in marriage with Lorraine Swanger on May 21, 1952 before moving to Portland, Oregon to work for General Metal Craft for 18 years. Later, they returned to Minnesota, and Walter began a lengthy career with the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission, retiring in 1994. When he wasn’t working, Walter was an avid fisherman, hunter, and casino-goer. Music was also a huge part of his life, and he enjoyed playing Polka and Country music on his guitar and with his band, the Natural Music Makers. Walter and Lorraine enjoyed dancing, traveling, and camping throughout their lives. Walter was a member of the Northfield Knights of Columbus Council 1516.
Walter is survived by his children, David Sobrak of Faribault, LeAnn (Bill) Mendoza of Tucson, AZ, and Kathryn (John) Benton of Faribault; three grandchildren, Kelsey Benton, Dakota (Lex) Mendoza, and Anna Sobrak; great granddaughter, Laiyah Mendoza; sisters, Pat (Bob) Jones of Idaho, and Dorothy Kelsey of Oregon; sister-in-law, Judy Sobrak of Oregon; and other loving relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Clara; wife, Lorraine; son, Walter Jr.; siblings, Helen DeCoux, Marie Trahan, Edward Sobrak, and Donald Sobrak; and granddaughter, Cheyenne Mendoza.
Family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Three Links Care Center, who showed the utmost care and love to Walter in his final years.
