Vivian L. Peterson, age 81 of Waseca, died on April 2, 2011 at the New Richland Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m. at North Waseca Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Nancy Hansen, officiating. Interment will be in the North Waseca Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, and will continue on Tuesday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Vivian Louise was born on February 26, 1930 to Herbert and Selma (Strehlo) Proehl at her grandmother's home in Mankato, Minnesota. She attended Blue Earth County Country School near Mapleton. Vivian was united in marriage to Dorwin Russel Peterson on June 15, 1949 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca. Vivian and Dorwin raised their family and resided in Waseca their entire married life. Over the years Vivian had worked for various local business including Birds Eye Foods, Herters Inc, Brown Printing Co, and Walmart in Waseca. She was a longtime member of North Waseca Lutheran Church. Vivian was also a member and past president of the Sweet-Sommers V.F.W. Auxiliary Post # 1642, and the American Legion Auxiliary #228. Vivian enjoyed sewing, reading, camping, and fishing. She loved family gatherings, and at the center of her life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Dorwin of Waseca; by her daughter Sharon (Peterson) LaPlount of Waseca, and her sons Dennis Peterson and special friend Debra Smith of Janesville, and Herbert (Deborah) of Janesville, and Norman Peterson of Waseca; by 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; by her sisters Helen (Clifford) Schoenfeld of Medford, Elaine Sack of Waseca, and her brother Duayne (Anita) Proehl of St. Paul; by her sister-in-law Helen Proehl of Cambridge; by many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Clarence Proehl.
