Viola A. Cordova, age 89 of Waseca, died on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 9th at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Marty Schaefer, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will be in Waseca's Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at church. McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca is handling arrangements. Viola Anna was born on March 27, 1922 in Burt, Iowa to Matthew and Anna (Simon) Eischen. She served her country in the United States Army during WWII from August of 1943 until her honorable discharge in December of 1945. During her military duty "Vi" met, and married Andrew Cordova on July 2, 1945 in Frederick, Maryland. For most of their married life, Vi and Andy resided in Waseca. She was a member of the Waseca American Legion Auxiliary #228, and the VFW Sweet-Sommers Post #1642 in Waseca. Vi was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Jeff) Volkenant of Albert Lea; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Ulrik) Andersen of Koesur, Denmark, Sarah (Michael) O'Connor of Elko, and Andrew Nelson of the Twin Cities; by her two great grandsons Carson and Ryan O'Connor; by her sisters Sally Kahnke of Waseca and Loretta (Foster) Jensen of Burnsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Andrew on December 15, 2007, son Mark on July 30, 1980 and daughter Nancy Nelson on April 2, 1999; by her brothers Art, Lawrence, Alex, Ray and Orville Eichen, and her sister Arlene (Herbert) Wilker.
