Terrence "Terry" Hughes, age 71, of Faribault, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault. Interment will be at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Terrence Charles Hughes, the son of Francis M. Sr. and Geraldine (Fait) Hughes, was born on April 27, 1941 in Faribault. Terry married Caryl Wilson on February 23, 1962 in Owatonna. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in February 2012. Terry worked as a journeyman painter for many years with his father, and later with Young & Welcome Painting. He also worked at the Owatonna Canning Co., and for many years was an OTR driver. Terry then worked for Pinkerton Security, Twin City Security, and most recently Hannon Security. He provided security services for Sheldahl, Jennie O Turkey Store, and both phases of the Power Plant recently built on the outskirts of Faribault. He retired in 2008. He was a member of the Faribault Eagles 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles. Terry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and listening to all kinds of music, especially Old Time music. He enjoyed the Gibbon Polka Festivals, Jewett's Point and other area ballrooms. For 21 years, Terry and Caryl spent their summers at LeMieux's resort on Cedar Lake. His vegetable garden was his pride and joy, producing numerous tomato plants and canning many of them. He never missed a NASCAR race or a newscast.
He is survived by his wife, Caryl Hughes of Faribault; daughters, Shelley (Kyle) Fleming of Faribault, Teresa Leite (Brian More) of Mankato, Patricia Guillen (Mike Brule) of Faribault, and Mary (Joseph) Murry of Sogn Valley; grandchildren, Matthew, Brian, Nicole, Dustin, Andrew, Abby, Alicia, Elizabeth, Joy, Kate, and Anna; two great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Kay Kuchinka of Northfield and Joanne (Richard) Canfield of Iron River, WI; brother, Michael (Kelly) Hughes of Faribault; sister-in-law, Winnie Hughes of Faribault; nieces, nephews and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brothers, Francis Jr., Dennis, and Peter Hughes; brother-in-law, Donald Kuchinka; two great grandsons in infancy; and lifelong friend, Paul Rogers.
