Sylvia E. David, age 89, died Sunday, July 4, 2010, at the District One Hospital in Faribault. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny, with Fr. Cory Rolfing, officiating. Interment will be at Trebon Cemetery in Shieldsville Township, Rice County. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Sylvia Elizabeth Velzke, the daughter of Werner and Dora (Schramm) Velzke, was born on May 7, 1921 on a farm by North Morristown. She married Michael P. David on July 8, 1943 and made her home on the farm in Shieldsville Township for nearly 65 years. She loved being a farmer's wife. On Saturdays her kitchen would be filled with fresh rolls and kolackys or a pie or two. In the summer, she loved her garden and fresh vegetables and her flowers. She enjoyed company and especially loved when her great grandchildren came to visit. Michael preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2008. Prior to Michael's death they moved into Golden Meadows Apartments in Faribault in April of 2008. In September of 2009, Sylvia moved to Piper's Good Tidings. She will be missed by her son, Walter David (Betty Mullenmeister-David) of Faribault; daughters, Emily (Jerry) Velishek of Faribault, and Mary (Larry) Glenn of Burnsville; nine grandchildren, Tony and Loren David, Diana (Velishek) Black, Michael and Ben Velishek, Jayme and Matthew Paukert, Lisa (Paukert) Eide and Sarah (Paukert) Nelson; 7 great grandchildren, Miranda and Danielle David, Dalton David, Savannah and Owen Black, and Haley and Malea Paukert; a soon to be great granddaughter; four step grandchildren, Jennifer David, Janelle Tupy, Jessie Donahue, and Jeff Mullenmeister; 13 step great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorrine "Mitz" Bulgrien of Saginaw, Mich. and Eldora Krause of Pemberton, MN; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter-in-law, Elaine (DeCoux) David; great granddaughter, Annette David; brother, Donald (Emma) Velzke; and brothers-in-law, Gus Bulgrien and Harold Krause. Sylvia's family would like to thank Dennis and Kathy Piper for the loving care she received at Piper's Good Tidings.
