Susan Moat

October 12, 1956 — April 21, 2011

Susan Lynn Moat (Hawkins), 54, of Waseca passed away Thursday, April 21, at home surrounded by loved ones, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 23rd from 3 to 7 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, and will continue on Monday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m., at Grace First Parish in Russell, MN, prior to funeral services. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 25th at 3:00 p.m. at Grace First Parish in Russell, MN with Pastor Bruce Drackley, officiating. Internment will follow at Russell Cemetery. An informal gathering will then be held for family and friends at the Russell Town Hall. Susan was born October 12, 1956 in Buffalo, MN. She graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1974. On March 13, 1976, she married Les A. Moat and moved to Yokosuka, Japan, where he served in the U.S. Navy. After living in Japan for about a year, the couple moved back to the U.S. and started a family. In addition to Minnesota and Japan, Susan also lived in Long Beach CA, Burbank SD, and Pekin IL, and travelled extensively throughout the United States. Susan had many occupations over her lifetime, with some of her favorites being a daycare provider, bank teller, and circulation manager for the Waseca County News. Susan enjoyed spending time with her pets, gardening, cooking, dancing, bingo, and all the small pleasures that a genuinely happy person can find in life. However, none of her many jobs or hobbies brought her as much happiness as being a loving mother of her four children and a devoted wife for her husband. She is survived by her husband Les, her children Jesse Moat (Sydny), Jeremy Moat, Rebecca Moat (Bart Bauer), Elisabeth Moat, and numerous other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emelie Hawkins, her father-in-law, Lester Moat, and her cousin, Richard Hawkins.
