Steven E. Sens, age 74, of Janesville died suddenly on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at his home.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Janesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy King officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Janesville American Legion #281. Interment will occur at a later date.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville and for one half hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Memorials are preferred to the Janesville Rescue Squad or the Janesville United Methodist Church.
Steven Edward was born on February 4, 1940 in Austin, Minnesota. He attended Mankato High School and graduated in 1958. Following his schooling, he entered the military, serving in the U.S. Navy until his discharge in 1961. On June 17, 1961, he was united in marriage to Ethel Johnson in Mankato. They then moved to Janesville in 1964. He purchased Don's Café and renamed it the Village Diner. He later created the Heritage House, which he owned and operated for several years. Steve worked at Marc's Big Boy and then later worked for Brown Printing for over ten years until his retirement. He was very active in the community, as he was a member of the Smiths Mill Sportmans' Club, Janesville City Council, Janesville Chamber and Janesville Rotary Club.
Steve loved his wife Ethel and his family. He enjoyed their time together boating on "Steve's" lake. He had a great love for his dogs and being with his friends. Steve enjoyed life and made life fun for all who knew him.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Ethel Sens; his daughter, AnneMarie Burgess and her children, Tyler (Jennifer) Burgess, Nicholas Burgess, Garrett Burgess (Felicia Berg), Kyle Burgess, Kelsey (Don) Simons and children, Cobran and Bruce, and Lynsey Burgess (Seth Hum) and daughter, Willow; daughter, Tami Sens and her children, Nakita Coonrod and Cobra Coonrod; daughter, Jodi (Paul) Cahill and daughter, Lillian; brother, Bob (Sharon) Sens; sister, Pat (Russ) Johnson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Lucille Sens; parents, Ed and Ethel Sens; and by his mother and father-in-law, Ted and Lillian Johnson.
