Steven E. McCarthy

Steven Errol McCarthy, age 87 of Faribault, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the Elysian Senior Home of Chanhassen, MN.

Steven Errol, the son of Henry and Irene (Ronhovde) McCarthy was born on February 5, 1936 in Faribault, MN.  He attended Bethlehem Academy High School and graduated with the class of 1954.  In 1955 Steve enlisted in the U.S. Army and served three years with the ASA.  After his service time Steve graduated from the University of Minnesota with his Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  On June 27, 1959 he was united in marriage to Rosalie Heine at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault.  After their marriage Steve taught in Michigan and during that time earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University.  Later they would move back to Minnesota and Steve taught German and became a Guidance Counselor in the Robbinsdale School District until his retirement in 1996.  He enjoyed traveling and living at Cedar Lake and Vero Beach, FL.

Steve is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rose McCarthy of Faribault, MN; by his children, Teri McCarthy of New London, MN, Flynn (Eva) McCarthy of Miami, FL, Brendan (Tara) McCarthy of Brooklyn Center, MN and Brigid (Steve) Klaysmat of Chanhassen, MN; by eleven grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandson, Jason McCarthy, his brother, Kenneth McCarthy and his sister, Elaine Quinn.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home with Bernadette Tatge, Pastoral Minister at Divine Mercy Catholic Church officiating.  Interment will be held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m..

The family prefers that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Steve.
