Shirley J. Younger, age 54, of Faribault, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in October of 2011. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Northfield at a later date. Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services. Shirley Jean Parkos, the daughter of James and Leila (Jandro) Parkos, was born on January 11, 1958 in Faribault, MN. She attended Bethlehem Academy and graduated with the class of 1976. Following high school she attended St. Catherine University in St. Paul and earned her degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Shirley worked for many years for the State of Minnesota, MSOCS, in Empire, MN as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Later she was married to Jon Younger. Family was very important to Shirley and she enjoyed time spent with all of her family. Helping others was also a natural for Shirley and she volunteered her time with different organizations including the Hope Center and Ruth's House in Faribault. The River Bend Nature Center was a place Shirley spent many hours and she always enjoyed going to. She is survived by her husband Jon Younger of Faribault; by three sons, Chris, Tim (Krissy) and Jon (Mandy); by Jon's children, Jody (Mike) and Darin (Diana); by 7 grandchildren, Brady, Nathan, Tristan, Ava, Cole, Stevi and Sidney; by her mother, Leila Parkos of Faribault; by six siblings, Peggy (Dan) O'Leary of California, Howard (Diane) Parkos of Faribault, Larry Parkos of Waterville, Tina (Dennis) McCusker of Faribault, Nick (Theresa) Parkos of Faribault and James Parkos of Faribault; by her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Younger of Northfield and by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, James Parkos, by her niece Erin Parkos and by her father-in-law, Oliver Younger.
