Ruth Anna Arndt was born on December 23, 1931 in Jamestown, ND to William and Clara (Ashbach) Arndt. She went to boarding school at Northwestern Lutheran Academy for her high school years, graduating in 1949, and received her RN nursing degree in 1953. Ruth first worked as a nurse in Colorado, then at an allergy and asthma clinic in the Twin Cities, and as a head nurse at Faribault District One hospital. While working at the allergy clinic, she was introduced to Robert Misgen by a close friend. They married on November 29, 1958. In 1965 they moved to the Misgen dairy farm near Roberds Lake in Wells Township where they spent many happy, fulfilling years raising their 4 children and farming the land. She was dedicated to the family farm, milking cows, and raising calves and chickens, selling eggs for many years. In 1996 they moved off the farm but continued to help their son farm and milk. Ruth dedicated her later years to helping at the farm and gardening, doing whatever she could until health issues stopped her in the summer of 2017 at age 85. Ruth was happiest in her garden raising vegetables and flowers, or in her kitchen freezing and canning the produce, generously giving the some of the abundance to food shelves, family and friends. She was passionate about nutrition and loved shopping for and cooking healthy food. She was an avid reader and dedicated letter writer. She was a member of a Bible Study group for many years, played the piano at nursing homes, masses and weddings, and was a member of Sacred Heart and later Saint Patrick's Catholic Church. She was very devoted to her family. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her four children, Roberta Misgen, Andrea (Paul)Vogel, Maria (Dale) Biros and Dan (Emily) Misgen; five grandchildren, Amy Vogel, Michael Vogel, and Matthew Vogel, Luke Biros and Sarah Biros; by one sister, Rhoda Arndt, and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Misgen, her parents and her brother, Paul Arndt.
