Ruth J. Carter, age 91 of Mankato, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Mankato House Health Care Center, surrounded by her family. Private family services are scheduled. Interment will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery, Niles, MI. Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home and Crematory of Janesville is assisting the family with arrangements. Ruth Janet was born on October 2, 1917 to J. Hable and Ruth (Cross) Hable in Three Oaks Michigan. Ruth attended Long Beach College in California graduating with a degree in sales. She was united in marriage to John W. Carter on February 14, 1935 in St. Joseph, Michigan. Ruth and John raised their family and lived in many states including Michigan, California, Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas and Alabama. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing and treasured time spent with family and friends. She is survived by her sons, Howard Carter of Mankato and Walter (Peggy) Carter of Janesville; by her daughters Patsy (Arnold) Waller of Mankato and Lenora (Charles) Whitehead of Grandbury, TX; by her eight grandchildren Bryan, Raymond and Chris Whitehead, John Waller, Amelia McCarty, Anna Haack, Ruth Hillesheim, and J.J. Carter; by her nine great-grandchildren; by many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband John W.Carter in 1986, and her step-parents Milton and Nettie Cross.
