Rudolph W. “Rudy” Schultz, age 88 of Faribault, MN passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at his home following a short illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault with Fr. Brandon Theisen officiating. Interment will be held at the Frontenac Cemetery in Frontenac, MN.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to services.
Rudolph William, the son of Herman and Helen (Greenfield) Schultz was born on October 2, 1930 in Frontenac, MN. As a young boy Rudy was diagnosed with Polio and overcame many obstacles with this illness. He attended school in Frontenac and later attended Faribault Vo-Tech and received his Associates Degree in Tool & Die. Rudy began working as a wagon driller on the Iron Range. He returned to Faribault and met his future wife, Dolly Peters, at the Olympia Restaurant where she was a waitress. On June 29, 1957 they were married at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Dolly preceded him in death on January 3, 2019. Rudy was an over the road truck driver for many trucking companies over the years. He also worked in the laundry department at the Faribault Regional Center and at Cedar Valley, driving bus, teaching and doing maintenance. He was deeply loved by the students at Cedar Valley. Rudy enjoyed playing bingo, tinkering in the garage, playing cards, old time music, woodworking, hunting, fishing, their pets both cats and dogs and watching sports, especially any Minnesota team.
He is survived by his six children, Bill (Carol) Schultz, Jodi Golombeski and friend Mark Compton, Kelly (Mike) Hughes, Eric (Jennifer) Schultz, Heidi (Lane) Weatherson, Aaron Schultz and friend Amanda Conrad; by 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; by two brothers, Ray (Reiko) Schultz and Lyle (Teresa) Hoaglund; by two sisters, Betty Hansen and Amy (Kol) Tikalsky; by three sister-in-laws, Shirley Schultz, Sharon Hoaglund and Maggie Meich and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Joseph Hoaglund, wife, infant son Ryan Schultz, infant daughter, Kim Schultz, two son-in-laws, John Golombeski and Mike Schulz, three brothers, Kenneth Hoaglund, Ralph Schultz and Gene Hoaglund and two sisters, Donna Kline and Dorothy Kodada.
