Roy O. Nelson, age 89, of Faribault, died suddenly on Friday, July 10, 2009, at his son's home in Albert Lea, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault with son Lonnie Nelson, officiating. Interment will be held at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held on Tuesday for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Roy Obert Nelson, the son of Obert and Ragna (Berge) Nelson, was born on December 11, 1919 in Faribault. He attended Faribault High school and graduated with the class of 1937. Roy served four years in the U.S. Navy Air Squadron during WWII in the Pacific Campaign. He was married to Marjorie Hohenhaus, they had three sons, Lonnie, Scott, and Lynn. They were later divorced. Roy worked for 20 years as a butcher at Nelson's Super Value in Faribault, 10 years at Fredrick-Willis Manufacturing in Farmington and 10 years at Crown Cork & Seal of Lakeville. He was married to Shirley (Mattson) Swanson in 1982. He is survived by three sons, Lonnie (and Reatha) Nelson of Albert Lea, Lynn (and Barbara) Nelson of Rosemount; and Scott (and Linda) Nelson of Cannon Falls; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; former spouse, Marjorie Nelson; spouse, Shirley Nelson; two brothers, Edwin and Clarence Nelson; and sister, Inez Kramer.
