Roger "Butch" Westphal, age 68, of Waterville, died peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at his home following an extended battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS).
A Celebration of Butch's Life will be held at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the Greenhill Cemetery in St. Peter, followed by a luncheon at the American Legion Post 37 (299 W. Nassau St.) in St. Peter.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, Butch's family requests memorials be designated to the Mayo Health Systems ~ Hospice, ALS Association, or to the donor's choice in his memory.
Roger Warren, the son of Warren and Hazel (Harris) Westphal, was born on November 13, 1945 in Oshawa Township, Nicollet County. He began his life-long career driving semi-trucks for various construction companies throughout the area. Outside of working, Butch enjoyed camping, fishing, especially ice fishing, classic cars, participating in car shows, and also enjoyed owning and racing his own racecar.
He is survived by his special friend, Cleota Staska-Miller of Waterville; his children, Keith Westphal, Lisa (Doug) Witte, and Jodi Johnson (fiancé, Carter Lehrke); his stepdaughters, Keithia Siem and Donna Spencer; his grandchildren, Andrew Westphal, Taylor Witte, Sydney Johnson, Shelby Johnson, and Kaden Siem; his great granddaughter, Kennedi Westphal; his siblings, Bonnie, Dawn, Earl, David, Hank, Doug, Tim, Jean, Evelyn, and Linda. Butch is also survived by Cleota's family, Kathy Stevermer and son, Dylan, Robert (Mary) Kotte and sons, Adam and Benjamin, and Jeff Kotte and children, Klemma and Logan; and by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his Godchild, Pam; and by his sister, Karen.
