Robert L. Appelgren Sr., age 84, of Faribault, MN, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2018 at his home.
The Celebration of Robert's life will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault, with Rev. Paul Rieger, officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21.
Visitation time will be held on Monday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home of Faribault.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crescent Love Hospice Home for Kids in memory of Robert.
Robert Louis was born on April 26, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN to Louis J. and Lillian (Nielsen) Minikus. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged February 15, 1955. Robert then married the love of his life Marion Berger on September 24, 1955 in Minneapolis. He worked for the Asbestos Workers Local 34 in St. Paul, MN for 36 years. During that time he also was a dairy farmer for nine years (1972-1981). In his early years, Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing. He cherished the time with his family and often attended family sporting events. Robert was very proud to be a member of AA for 39 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marion Appelgren; six children, Kathy (Scott) Klecker, Sandy (Mike) Schlossin, Sharon (Mark) Nugen, Bobby Jr. (Wendy) Appelgren, David (Kristi) Appelgren, and Susie Gilbertson; 17 grandchildren, Maddie & Zach; Jennifer, Elizabeth, Rachael (Ryan), Chrissy, & Timothy (deceased); Jonathan, Annie, & Abigail; Tricia, Lillian, & Geoffrey; Sally & Billy; Mari & Cole; seven great grandchildren, Caeden, Ellie, Carter, Jaron, Saycia, Teyten, and Jordan Timothy; sisters, Nancy Appelgren, Annalise G. Fiebiger, Carol Dehne, and Laurie O'Connell; brother, David Minikus; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Joan Minikus in 1940; and his grandson, Timothy Schlossin on May 26, 2018.
