Robert J. Byron, age 88 of Waseca, died on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Lake Shore Inn of Waseca. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 7th at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Martin Schaefer, Celebrant. Military honors will immediately follow services, at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Waseca. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. There will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary and 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Educational Endowment Fund. Born on July 28, 1922 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the son of Robert E. and Margaret (Burns) Byron. On September 5, 1946 he was united in marriage to Jeanette C. Frederick of Waseca. Bob attended grade school at Dist. # 68 Wilton Township, Sacred Heart High School in Waseca, and Mankato School of Business. Upon graduation, and his military duty in the United States Army, Bob enjoyed a career in the farm equipment business; first owning his own business until retirement in 1973, then later as a farm equipment salesman. He was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #2768, and a lifetime member of the Waseca American Legion #228. He is survived by his wife Jeanette, and his children; Mike (Jeanne) Byron of Rochester, Sue (Ron) Dahling of Lake City, Kaye (Jeff) Monahan and Robert F. Byron III, of Waseca; by his 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; by his 2 sisters, Peg Haggerty of Seattle, WA, and Bonnie (George) Griffiths of Edina, and his sister-in-law Norma Byron of Faribault. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his three brothers, Gene Byron, John Byron, and Dick (Julie) Byron; by his brother-in-law Joseph Haggerty.
