R.L. "Joe" Cotner, age 71 of Waseca, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 2nd at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with Fr. Marty Schaefer, Celebrant. The Cotner Family will greet friends on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service, at Sacred Heart Church. McRaith Funeral Home and Crematory of Waseca is handling arrangements. Ronald "Joe" was born on February 11, 1939 in Gary, Indiana to Robert and Lucille (McMullen) Cotner. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS North Hampton. Joe was united in marriage on September 17, 1960 to Gerri Adams in Gary, Indiana. Joe and Gerri have resided in various communities around the country, following Joe's long career in the newspaper publishing business. For the last four years they have resided in Waseca, Minnesota. Joe was an active Rotarian during his career. He was an avid hunter, golfer, and fisherman. Over the years he had been involved in, and supported many wildlife organizations. He and Gerri were currently members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. He is survived by his wife Gerri of Waseca; by his children Rhonda (John) Simonette of Waseca, John (Lorna) Cotner of Fredericksburg, VA, and Jason (Jodi) Cotner of Bakersfield, CA; by 5 grandchildren, Matt Hall and Elizabeth Hall, Brittney Cotner, Andrew Cotner and Nicholas Cotner; by 4 great grandchildren Connor Minor and Aubrey Minor, Natalie Hall and Whitney Hall; by his brother Bob (Alice) Cotner of Illinois, and his sister-in-law Dolores Arrenson of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shirley Politovich.
