Richard Siemers

Richard N. Siemers, age 73, of Faribault, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the District One Hospital in Faribault.             Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Dr., Faribault. Interment with military honors will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis on Monday, December 12th.             Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Friday for one hour prior to the services at the church.             Richard Nolan Siemers, the son of Merrill and Ila (Nolan) Siemers, was born on November 22, 1938 in Faribault. After graduating from Faribault High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was married to Judy Dressel on August 31, 1963 in San Diego, CA. His career in the Navy included serving during the Vietnam War and being stationed in Rota, Spain for seven years. After 20 years of military service, Richard retired from the Navy with the rank of SKC. He then worked for the Star Tribune as a District Supervisor until 2000 when several health issues prevented him from continuing to work. Richard enjoyed camping and fishing, which included many trips to Canada. He also had a passion for tropical fish and was part owner of Faribault Aquarium. He was a member of the Faribault Council 889 Knights of Columbus and Faribault Moose Lodge 2098.             He is survived by his wife, Judy of Faribault; children, John (Theresa) Siemers of Faribault, Paul Siemers of White Bear Lake, MN, and Catherine (Kurt) Richardson of N. Mankato, MN; grandchildren, Ashley Siemers and Emma and Fred Richardson; sister-in-law, Gretchen Siemers of Faribault; and many other relatives and friends.             He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Julie Siemers; brother, Thomas Siemers; and grandson, Alex Richardson.
