Richard J. Rech, age 76, of Northfield, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive in Faribault, MN, with Fr. Dennis Dempsey officiating. Interment will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Organization.
Visitation will be held at the new location of Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N. in Faribault on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to services.
Richard Joseph, the son of Ervin and Lorraine (DuChene) Rech, was born on May 3, 1941 in Austin, MN. Dick attended Bethlehem Academy High School and graduated with the class of 1959. Following high school he served in the U.S. Army. On May 18, 1963 he was united in marriage to Darline Caron at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. After their marriage they lived in Northfield and Dick worked for 47 years as a butcher and manager of the meat department at a local Northfield grocery store. Dick enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and especially with his grandchildren. He liked to be outside, enjoyed helping others, hunting and being his kids all around Superman! He was a kind and gentle man that had an infectious smile and laugh. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 889 and the American Legion Post 43 in Faribault and was also a member of the Last Man's Club.
He is survived by his wife, Darline Rech of Northfield, MN; by his daughters, Lisa Brown of Inver Grove Heights, MN and Kate (Mike) Huinker of Morristown, MN; by his grandchildren, Alec (Erica) Brown of South St. Paul, MN, Ian (Amy) Brown of Madison, WI, Sammy Huinker of Morristown and Lukas Huinker of Morristown; by his siblings, Jim (Diane) Rech, Kenny (Diane) Rech, Mary Kay Thompson, Joyce (Gil) Ross, all of Faribault and Dale (Debbie) Rech of Warsaw, MN and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Lorraine Rech, sister, Beverly Hansen, brother, David Rech and brother-in-law, Randy Thompson and son-in-law, Robert Brown.
