Richard Jones

Richard R. Jones, age 95, of Faribault, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville, MN. Interment will be held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault with military honors conducted by the Rice County Central Veterans Organization.

Visitation will be held at the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville, MN on Friday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Richard Remi, the son of Fred C. and Germaine Payant Jones, was born on June 23, 1920 in Faribault, MN. He attended Faribault High School and graduated with the Class of 1938. Following high school, Dick worked as a plumber for a short time until he enlisted along with his brothers Fred and Tom and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, mostly in the Pacific Theater, during World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Faribault and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State University in 1949. During this time, in 1947 he married Lucille Zeamann at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. From this marriage two sons were born, Michael and Richard Jones. Lucille preceded him in death in March 1973.

In September 1974 Dick married Vivian Pofahl Walsh. For over 40 years Dick worked as an independent contractor with his own Jones Plumbing. With his best friend and business partner, Rollie Tebo, Dick and Viv and Rollie built and ran the R and R Apartments in Faribault. Dick enjoyed wood working, being a potterer and happy hour with family and friends. He was a member of the Faribault Art Center, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Faribault Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife Vivian Jones of Faribault, his children Michael (Deborah) Jones of Ashby, MN, Richard (JoAnn) Jones, David (KC) Walsh and Patrick Walsh, all of Faribault, Moira Walsh of St. Cloud, and Shawn Walsh of Brooklyn, NY. And by 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, by his brother, Robert (Suzi) Jones of Faribault also two sisters-in-law Josie Jones and Anne Antletz and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Lucille Zeamann and grandson, Christopher Jones, also by his sister, Patsy Moxness and two brothers, Fred and Tom Jones.
