Richard Dickison

Richard "Dick" Dickison, age 80, of Faribault, died suddenly on Monday, July 23, 2012 at the District One Hospital in Faribault.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.   Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church.   Richard John Dickison, the son of Charles and Mary (McNamara) Dickison, was born on June 5, 1932 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was raised in Emmestburg and in 1950 graduated from Castlewood High School in Castlewood, SD. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952. He was a career serviceman and served in many different overseas locations including, Korea, Japan, England, and Turkey. He was united in marriage to Miyoko Shinozaki on October 15, 1957 in Toyko, Japan. He was an air traffic controller in the Air Force and retired in July of 1973 after 22 years of service. They moved to Faribault and Dick worked as custodian at Immaculate Conception School for 12 years until his retirement. His outdoor activities had included hunting, but he mainly loved to fish. He enjoyed playing pinochle, watching baseball, in which he was a Dodger fan, and watching Viking football games. Most of all he enjoyed gatherings with his family.   He is survived by his wife, Miyoko Dickison of Faribault; five children, Sue (Steve) Bishop of Pierson, Mich., Jim (Michelle) Dickison of St. Louis, MO, Rich (Jackie) Dickison of Faribault, Mike (Karen) Dickison of Phoenix, AZ, and Bill (Heidi) Dickison of Kansas City, MO; 20 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Condon and Nancy (Jim) Talley, both of Palmyra, MO; three brothers, John Dickison, Fred (Carol) Dickison, and Don (Nancy) Dickison, all of Faribault; and many other relatives and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Lou Johnson; brother, Robert Dickison; sister-in-law, Edna Dickison; brothers-in-law, Sterling Johnson and James Condon; niece, Pamela Dickison; nephew, Rusty Swartwoudt; and former sister-in-law, Judith Noland.   Memorials may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
