Raymond L. Schwichtenberg, age 89 formerly of Faribault, died on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the VA Health Care System in St. Cloud following an extended illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault. Interment will be held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans organization.
Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.
Raymond LaVerne, the son of Louis and Emily (Dahl) Schwichtenberg, was born on March 5, 1927 in Faribault, MN. He attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1945. After high school Ray served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On June 25, 1949 he was united in marriage to Patricia Barry at the Immaculate Conception Church Parish House. Ray worked at McQuay's in Faribault for a short time and then transferred to their plant in Grenada, MS for 3 years. He would then move to Danville, IL where he was the quality control manager for Bohn Heat Transfer for 25 years until his retirement. In retirement Ray and Pat lived in Fort Myers, FL, and Maple Grove, MN. Ray enjoyed woodworking and enjoyed making rocking horses and cradles for his grandchildren. He was also an accomplished tennis player and played into his 80's and enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia Schwichtenberg of Brooklyn Park, MN; by two sons, Bradley Schwichtenberg of Hilton Head, SC and Dean Schwichtenberg of Brooklyn, MN; by four grandchildren, Sean (Dana) Schwichtenberg of Fairfax, VA, Carley Schwichtenberg of Richmond, VA, Jacob Schwichtenberg of Fishers, IN and Derek (Amber) Schwichtenberg of Brooklyn Park, MN; by three great grandchildren and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Gordon Schwichtenberg and by two sisters, Lorraine Schwartz and Marcella Grover.
