Randall "Randy" Thompson, age 67, of Faribault, MN, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014, at his home with his family at his side following a brief illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault at a later date.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Randall Wayne was born on October 8, 1946 in Faribault to William and Violet (Schultz) Thompson. He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1964. Randy married Mary Kay Rech on January 30, 1967 in Faribault. He was skilled in many different trades, first working at Faribault Manufacturing before owning and operating his own service station, Randy's Central Pro for 10 years. He then worked as a roofer for Bauernfeind & Goedtel followed by Faribo Heating and Air for over 10 years until his retirement. Randy had a tremendous passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, trips up north, and excelled at landscaping and gardening at their French Lake home. He was skilled at rebuilding old cars and trucks from the ground up and took great pride in his finished work. Besides all of his interests, he treasured the time he spent with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Thompson of Faribault; daughters, Lorrie (Dave) Fette, Jeanne Green, and Jessica Kenow (Jeff Scherfenberg), all of Faribault; nine grandchildren, David Fette Jr., Jennifer (Steve) Nusbaum, Brian Green, Jaqueline Green (fiancé, Scott Armstrong), Megan Green, Alex Kenow, Kelly Kenow, Matthew Kenow, and Emma Scherfenberg; four great grandchildren, Kyrie, Leland, Layne, and Avery; three siblings, Rosemarie (Dennis) Buendorf of Faribault, Jim (Annette) Thompson of Owatonna, and Larry (Tami) Thompson of Faribault; step-father, Gordon Dettmer of Faribault; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Violet Thompson Dettmer and William "Junior" Thompson; brother, William "Bill" Thompson; mother and father-in-law, Lorraine and Ervin Rech; and sister-in-law, Beverly Hansen.
