Peter E. Seys, age 89 of Janesville, died on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Peter Klein, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will be in the St. Ann Catholic Cemetery, Janesville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 13th from 2 to 6 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville, and will continue on Monday morning for one hour prior to services at church. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to donor's choice. Peter Emil was born on October 8, 1921 to August and Emma (Quartier) Seys in McPherson Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. He attended the Schultz and Mace Country Schools in the St. Clair area. Peter served in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1946, and during his service had sailed on all 7 seas. He was united in marriage on March 31, 1948 to Ignatia Caroline Willaert at Ss Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Mankato. They lived on the South Shore of Madison Lake for 8 years before moving to their Janesville Township farm in 1957. He has been a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville since 1957. He was a former member of the Catholic Order of Foresters-St. Ann Court # 645, Knights of Columbus-St. Ann Council #8184, Farmers Union, and the Silver Lake Sportsman Club of Elysian. Peter was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, and card player. He most enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Ignatia of rural Janesville; by his children Diane (Jim) Baudoin of Grand Meadow, Daniel (Judy) Seys of Janesville, Darlene Grams (Jim Hughes) of North Mankato, Bonnie (Richard Bromley of Owatonna, Gary (Judy) Seys of Madison Lake, Marie (Charles) Retka of LeSueur, and Peter (Brenda) Seys of North Mankato; by his brothers Hector Seys of Mankato, Jerome (Janice) Seys of Mankato, and George Seys of Mankato; by his sister Mary Depuydt of North Mankato; by his sister-in-law Eileen Seys of St. Clair; by 25 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; by his very close friend Wayne Grams of Owatonna. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers Henry (Erma) Seys, Oscar Seys, and Allie Seys; by his sister Martha (Valere) Pluym; by his brother-in-law John Depuydt, and sisters-in-law Leona Seys and Shirley Seys.
