Patty Olson

Patty Kay Olson, age 72 of Faribault, passed away Tuesday morning, October 22, 2019, at the Reflections Care Suites in Northfield.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 26, 2019, at First English Lutheran Church in Faribault, with Pastor Janet White officiating. Interment will follow at Geneva Cemetery in Geneva, MN.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 PM Friday, October 25, 2019, at Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Patty Kay, the daughter of Frank and Dorothy (Prusha) Kos, was born on January 27, 1947, in Osage, Iowa. She graduated from Owatonna High School in 1965 and attended Mankato Commercial College. She married Duane Olson on December 17, 1966 and eventually they moved in 1973 to the home they built together on Kelly Dudley Lake. Patty lived at the home for 46 years, taking great pride in and care of the property herself after Duane’s death in 1999 up until her own death. Patty worked at Carleton College for 37 years until her retirement in 2009.

Patty loved being a grandma and also having fun and living life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family, and many neighbors and friends, as well as gardening and taking care of her expansive yard with her riding lawn mower. She was an active member of First English Lutheran Church, and also volunteered for many organizations throughout her life. She loved to travel and saw many parts of the world. If a catchy tune was playing, Patty was dancing.

Patty is survived by her son, David (Kathryn) Olson of Minneapolis, MN, and their sons, Edward and Samuel; daughter, Karen (John) Burkhartzmeyer of Fitchburg, WI, and their daughters, Elise and Megan; Bonnie (Todd) Wittwer of Fresno, CA, and their sons, Jacob and Kyle; siblings, Daryl (Donna) Kos of New Cambria, MO, Gale Kos of Claremont, MN, Gladys (Gordon) Rassman of Owatonna, MN, Gary (Judith) Kos of Rochester, MN, Judy Derrickson of Monroe, WI, and Betty Hoover of Dundas, MN; special friend, Harry Chappuis of Faribault, MN; mother-in-law, Marian Olson Utpadel of Owatonna, MN; in-laws, Shirley Toft of Austin, MN, Jeanne (Vernon) Simonson of Clarks Grove, MN, Sonya (Gary) Peterson of Ellendale, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane Olson; parents; brother, Delano; sister, Alice Marie; brothers-in-law, William Hoover, Bob Derrickson, Paul Toft; and sister-in-law, Shirlee Kos.

The family prefers that memorials be directed to First English Lutheran Church.
