Opal Wegner

Opal J. Wegner, age 98 of Waseca, formerly of Lamberton, died on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the New Richland Care Center.              Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca Rev. Vicki Hultine officiating. Interment will be held in the Lamberton Cemetery on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m.              Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon for one hour prior to services, at St. John Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the New Richland Care Center or donor's choice. McRaith Funeral Home of Waseca is handling arrangements.                Opal Jane was born on October 5, 1910 in Cottonwood County near Westbrook, Minnesota to Conrad and Emma (Nelson) Carlson. She was a 1929 graduate of Sanborn High School. On September 2, 1935 Opal was united in marriage to Russell A. Wegner in Westbrook, Minnesota. Opal and Russell farmed for 20 years in Highwater Township, in Cottonwood County, and the following 7 years in Germantown Township, in Redwood County. The Wegners also owned and operated the Lamberton Drive-In Restaurant. Following her husband's death in 1968, Opal lived in Byron, Minnesota for 25 years and was employed with Madonna Towers in Rochester. Since 1998 Opal has lived in the Waseca Area. Over the years her faith, family and church were at the center of her life. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, her flower and vegetable gardens, and traveling.               She is survived by her children Dale (Cindy) Wegner of Waseca, MN, Janet (Arnold) Uhlig of Palatine, IL, and Marie (Ken) Mace of Wales, WIS; by her grandchildren DeAnne (Darin) Milbrett of Waseca, Tony (Sherry) Wegner of Waseca, Brad (Chris) Uhlig of Northbrook, IL, Brian (Melissa) Uhlig of Northbrook, IL, Sonya (Tim) Nelson of Urbandale, IA, and Leah Studer and Kevin Schrader of London, England; by her 19 great grandchildren; by her brother Ivan Carlson of Westbrook, MN, and Pearl Moen of Fargo, ND.              She was preceded in death by her husband on December 2, 1968; by 3 sisters and 2 brothers.          A special thank you to the New Richland Care Center for the wonderful care and concern they have shown our mother.
