Nancy L. Smuda, age 86, of Faribault, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour in Faribault, with the Very Reverend James Zotalis, Dean of the Cathedral, officiating. Interment will be at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault at a later date. Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. in the Cathedral Cloister. Arrangements are completed with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home of Faribault. Nancy Loraine Rogers, the daughter of Arthur and Loraine (Clements) Rogers, was born on February 19, 1924 in Faribault. She graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1942 and attended Koehler Nursing School in Rochester. Nancy served in the U.S. Navy from May of 1944 to January of 1946 at the San Diego Naval Hospital. She married Leo O. Smuda on October 18, 1948 in Faribault. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1961. Nancy worked for 21 years as switchboard operator at the Faribault Regional Center. She was a member of the American Legion Post 43. She is survived by her daughters, Merry Chris (Don "Butch") Rodewald of Dundas and Terrie Van Thomme of Ellendale; grandchildren, Jake Rodewald (fiancée Valerie Roehl), Dan Rodewald, Corey Van Thomme and Crystal Van Thomme; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Mary Jane Bailey.
