Michael E. “Mick” Perron, age 80, of Faribault, MN, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following a brief illness.
Michael Edward, the son of Leo and Thelma (Morgan) Perron was born on December 2, 1944 in Fairmont, West Virginia. When he was 2 years old his family moved to Faribault. He attended Bethlehem Academy High School and graduated with the class of 1962. Following high school Mike served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1966. On May 21, 1966 he was united in marriage to Carole Stevens at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Owatonna, MN. Mike worked for 43 years for Kratochvil Construction starting as a carpenter and retiring as a supervisor. Mike was known as the “Unofficial Mayor of the East Side”. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Because of this he was nominated by his neighbors for the Unsung Hero award given by the Faribault Daily News. He enjoyed woodworking, playing checkers with his grandsons and always had to have a perfect lawn. He was a member of the Carpenters Union.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carole Perron of Faribault, MN; by his children, Lisa (Jeff) LaCanne of Faribault, MN, Julie Finnesgard (Dave Stanford) of Faribault, MN and Dave (Melissa) Perron of Mankato, MN; by 9 grandchildren, Jessica (Tai) Zen, Ryan (Claire) LaCanne, Nick (Kasi) LaCanne, Alec (Laurell) LaCanne, Sydney (Tyler) Smeby, Noah Finnesgard, Quinn Finnesgard (Keegan), Autumn Perron (Sam) and Holden Perron; by 4 great grandchildren, Ivy and Lily LaCanne and Rowyn and Wells Smeby; by his sisters, Judy (Tim) Lesson of Tucson, AZ, Patti Perron of Tucson, AZ, Shirley Perron-Southworth of Faribault, MN and Carol Perron of Seattle, WA and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John Perron, his great granddaughter, Olive Smeby, his brother, Jerome Perron and his nephew, Tommy Perron.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault, MN with Fr. Hjalmar Gudjonsson officiating. Interment will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Organization.
Memorial visitation will be held at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers that memorials be directed to IRIS and Light of Hope Foundation in memory of Mike.
