Michael "Mike" Meillier, age 63, of Faribault, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the family Cannon Lake cabin in Faribault, following an extended illness.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Friday from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. and on Saturday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Michael Charles was born on November 4, 1949 in St. Paul, MN to David E. and Lois (Melchert) Meillier. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy in 1968 and St. John's University in 1972 with a degree in Medical Technology. Mike was united in marriage to Josephine "Jo" Dinndorf on June 9, 1973 at the Church of St. Benedicts in Avon, MN. He immediately started his career as a medical technologist on June 12, 1973 until 1981. After he obtained his Nursing Home Administrators license, Mike and Jo moved to Faribault in 1981, where Mike joined his father and brother in the operation of Pleasant Manor Nursing Home. Mike served as Administration Assistant from May of 1981 until August of 2013. He served on the Faribault City Council for 11 years, and was an ex officio member of the Faribault Heritage Days committee. Mike was a member of the Faribault Council 889 Knights of Columbus and the "MUMS" Mini Cooper Club.
Mike loved sailing, photography and reading. He and Jo loved to travel, discovering unique places and its food. Their most recent travels took them to Alaska. Most of all, Mike cherished his family and was a wonderful grandpa.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Josephine Meillier of Faribault; daughter, Alicia Meillier (Tyler Fallon) of Waterville, MN; two grandchildren, Elisabeth Jo Fallon and Elliot James Fallon; father, David E. Meillier of Faribault; brother, Patrick (Darlene) Meillier of Faribault; sisters, Teresa Meillier (Pat Olson) of Minog, WI, Ann Meillier (Dave Correll) of Faribault, and Mary Meillier of Milwaukee, WI; sisters-in-law, Vicky Dinndorf, Carol Dinndorf, Annette (Kenny) Eiynk and Judy (Allen) Eiynk, all of Avon; and his nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Meillier in 2010; and mother-in-law, Ann Dinndorf in 2003
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the District One Hospital Cancer Center, Faribault Area Hospice, Bethlehem Academy Endowment Fund, River Bend Nature Center or his grandchildren, Elliot & Elisabeth's College America Accounts.
