Michael E. McGinnis, age 83, of Faribault, MN, passed away October 11, 2015, at Milestone Senior Living in Faribault following an extended illness.
Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault. Memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Bernadette Tatge, Pastoral Minister of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, officiating.
Interment with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault.
Michael Edmund was born on August 27, 1932, in Faribault to Edmund and Evelyn (Dube) McGinnis. He graduated from Bethlehem Academy with the class of 1950. Mike served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was a Radar Technician during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Patricia Van Ryn on June 4, 1957 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2007. Mike worked as a lather by trade his entire career and was a member of the Lather's Union for over 50 years. He worked for Artcraft Construction for many years, both before and after his military service until the 1970s. He also worked for Hendleys and Conroy Brothers Construction. Mike loved technology and furthered his education obtaining certification in electronics and television repair. He enjoyed his photography and shooting videos, loved to dance, and spending time boating and fishing at the cabin. Mike volunteered his time with many organizations, driving the van for veterans to the VA, and serving as Exalted Ruler of the Faribault Elks Club and Grand Commander of the American Legion Post 43. He was a member of the Faribault Knights of Columbus and Faribault Country Club, golfing often in his retirement. Mike enjoyed his rides in his Model T, often participating in parades.
He is survived by his children, Debbie (Steve) Manthey of Lakeville, MN, Dan (Kathy) McGinnis of Faribault, and Diane (Mike) Chappuis of Eagan; grandchildren, Michael (Nicole) Manthey, Jason (Neha) McGinnis, Claire Chappuis, and Erin Chappuis; great grandchildren, Marin and Lorren Manthey; sisters, Jeanne Gray of Faribault, and Carmen Dison of Rochester; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; parents, Edmund and Evelyn; and brother, John McGinnis.
Memorials may be directed to Faribault Area Hospice, Bethlehem Academy, or Faribault Elks Club in memory of Mike.
