Melvin E. Kenyon, age 91, of rural Madison Lake, MN, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014, at the Oak Lawn Health Care Center in Mankato, MN.
Private family interment will take place at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
Arrangements are with the Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville, MN.
Melvin Earl was born on March 22, 1923 in LeRay Township, Blue Earth County, MN to Benjamin and Luella (Borneke) Kenyon. Melvin was a second generation farmer. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1946 after two years of service. He was united in marriage to Irene Marie Hohenstein on April 23, 1953. Melvin was a lifelong dairy farmer and thoroughly enjoyed farming and rural life. He was a member of the National Farmers Organization and the Elysian American Legion.
He is survived by his son, James Kenyon of Madison Lake; daughter, Karen (David) Wirig of Madison Lake; brother, Kenneth (Dorothy) Kenyon of rural Eagle Lake, MN; friends, Dennis and Kandy Kleinow, Kent Hoehn, Al and Barb Erdman, and Freddie his tom cat; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; parents, Benjamin and Luella; brother, Harold Kenyon; sister, Violet Daschner; and family friend, Laura Bird.
