Mary J. Klug, age 84, of Waseca, died peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2013 surrounded by her family at the Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home of Waseca.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Waseca, with Father Gregory Leif, officiating. Private interment will be held at the St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Church of the Sacred Heart Endowment Fund or to the donor's choice.
Mary Jean, the daughter of Theodore and Josephine (Johnson) Olson, was born on December 25, 1928 in Amboy, Minnesota. She attended Amboy High School and graduated with the class of 1947 and then continued her education at Mankato Commercial College for secretarial training. Mary worked for a short time at the Chamber of Commerce in Mankato and on October 17, 1950, was united in marriage to John Peter Klug at the St. John's Catholic Church in Mankato. As their family began to grow, she enjoyed being a homemaker and raising their children. She also volunteered for many years with Telecare, St. Mary's Catholic Church, and eventually at the Church of the Sacred Heart. She was a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, and Extension Club.
Outside of raising her family and volunteering, Mary enjoyed being creative by sewing, knitting and making crafts. She also enjoyed traveling with John to many places around the world and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and family.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John of Waseca; her children, Patricia (Jim) Johnson of Crete, NE, Margaret (Mike) Steffens of rural Waseca, Thomas Klug of rural Waseca, Helen (Bruce) Kleaver of Prior Lake, George (Joanne) Klug of New Richland, Mary Catherine (Tim) Talbott of Olathe, KS , Philip (Lonna) Klug of Waseca, William (Lisa) Klug of Waseca and Steven Klug of Waseca; her nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren and by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her three brothers, Sherman, Alfred, and Edwin Olson; her three sisters, Elnora McGaw, Evelyn Sohre, and Louise Doyen; her son James in 2009, and by her granddaughter, Kari Jo (Klug) Rasmussen in 2010.
