Marvin M. "Swede" Meyer, age 87 of rural Janesville, died on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Janesville Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freedom Township, Waseca County with Rev. Michael Mathews, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville, and will continue on Friday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Marvin Martin was born on April 6, 1924 in Alton Township, Waseca County, Minnesota to Frank and Ida (Rudolph) Meyer. Marvin worked for various farmers in the Claremont area, then later in Waseca County. He entered military service in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home and began working for Fairmont Canning Co. in Waseca. He then worked harvesting potatoes in the Grand Forks area for three years. Marvin returned home and on February 16, 1950 he was united in marriage to Anieta R. Grams at the Grams Family Farm in McPherson Township, Blue Earth County. Marvin and Anieta raised their family and farmed in Freedom Township, Waseca County. For many years Marvin also hauled for Birds Eye in Waseca. He was a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freedom Township, and Janesville American Legion Post # 281. Marvin is survived by his seven children, Melva (Stanley) Fast of Jefferson City, MO, Kathleen (Michael) Fawcett of Windsor, CO, Mark (Julie) Meyer of Mapleton, MN, Susan (Peter) Hinton of Thornton, CO, Bradley (Joan) Meyer of Dodge Center, MN, Brian (Renee) Meyer of Janesville, MN, and Dean Meyer of Waseca, MN; by 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; by his sisters Hazel Spradlin of Tucson, AZ, Agnes Kopp of North Mankato, and brother Melvin (Ruth) Meyer of Waldorf; by his close friends Robert Sack, and Leon Piltz; by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife Anieta on November 9, 2001, daughter Vicki Lynn, and great granddaughter Elaina Fast; by his 4 brothers and 1 sister. Casketbearers are his children: Melva Fast, Kathleen Fawcett, Mark Meyer, Susan Hinton, Bradley Meyer, Brian Meyer, and Dean Meyer.
