Marjorie Cummins died November 5, 2015 at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Janesville, MN after a brief bout with lung cancer.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville, MN. Interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
Marge was a lifelong resident of Austin, MN, where she married Bobb Cummins and raised 6 children. They retired to Fort Myers, FL in 2012.
Marge graduated from Austin High School and continued on later in life to graduate from Austin Community College, receiving her RN degree in nursing. She worked at Mayo in Rochester for 22+ years in areas of pediatric oncology, orthopedics, adolescent psych and chemical dependency. She often said she could not believe she got paid for doing something she loved so much!
She had a passion for self-improvement and supporting others in that cause. She exercised daily and was a committed member of many Al-Anon groups and outreach programs. She was an avid volunteer and sponsored many on the road to recovery from co-dependency.
Marge was a strong, independent woman, who walked and talked daily with her Savior. She felt of His presence and knew of His truths. She wanted all to know she had no fear and was ready to "receive her wings." She returned to MN in early September after her diagnosis to say her good-byes to family and friends. She continued to support and comfort others through her illness and showed us all how to die with dignity and grace.
Marge is survived by her children, Dianne Shaw-Cummins/Larry Schmidt of Pederson, MN, Pam and Jack Letourneau of Shaffer, MN, Michael and Shelley Cummins of Carmel, IN, Patti Christensen of Chisago City, MN, Lindy and Elvin Rider of New Castle, CO, Cindy and Greg Jewison of Janesville, MN; 18 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and her darling sister-in-law, Lois Shaw. Marge lives on in each and every one of them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobb Cummins; parents, Abraham and Winnie (Severson) Shaw; sister, Mildred Brimacomb; brother and sister-in-law, Howard Shaw and Lou; and brother, Warren Shaw.
She was an amazing inspiration of how life should be lived right up to her final breath.
