Marilynn A. Lau, age 79 of Waseca, died on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca, with the Pastor Victor Waters, officiating. Interment will be held at the Janesville Cemetery, Janesville, MN. Visitation will be held at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to services. The family prefers that memorials be directed to Faith United Methodist Church, Waseca Hospice or to the donor's choice in memory of Marilynn. Marilynn Ann, the daughter of Herman and Gurina (Sorbel) Potter, was born on October 29, 1932 in Burnsville Township, Brown County, MN near Springfield, MN. She was baptized at Springfield United Methodist Church and confirmed at New Avon United Methodist Church in rural Redwood Falls, MN. Marilynn attended rural country schools in Redwood County and attended Springfield High School, graduating with the class of 1950. After high school Marilynn attended Mankato State University and earned her teaching certificate in 1952. She started her teaching career in Janesville and taught Second Grade for three years and then taught First Grade for a year in Albert Lea. During this time of teaching Marilynn had been taking more classes from Mankato State University and in 1957 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Marilynn then moved to San Bernardino, CA for two years and taught First Grade. After this she moved back to Minnesota and on October 16, 1959 she was united in marriage to Willard "Bud" Lau at the Wesley Methodist Church in Mason City, IA. In the fall of 1959 Marilynn began a 32 year career teaching First Grade with the Waseca Public School system. She retired in 1991. Bud preceded her in death on May 18, 1995. After Bud's death Marilynn moved to Waseca. Marilynn was an active member of W.A.R.E., Waseca Area Retired Educators, S.E. REAM, Southeastern Retired Educators Association of Minnesota, Waseca American Legion Auxillary and a member of the Faith United Methodist Women, Elizabeth Circle. The family would like to thank the staff at Colony Court and at the Lake Shore Inn for the wonderful care that was given to Marilynn. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Ramona Potter of Redwood Falls and Carol Potter of Renville, MN and by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband "Bud", her parents, by her sister Ethel Keil on August 11, 2012, by two brothers, Ken from Renville, MN in 2000 and Daniel from Redwood Falls, MN in 2007 and by her brother-in-law, Ken Keil in 2004. Casket Bearers are James Priebe, Lyle Skorseth, Dean Potter, Keith Potter, Robert Wright and Ron Kvaas.
