Marie E. Kotek, of Faribault, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, January 25, 2013 in Faribault following an extended illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church (139 Mercy Drive) in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday morning.
Marie Elizabeth Hickey, the daughter of Bert and Kate (Meehan) Hickey, was born in Erin Township, Rice County, MN. She attended Shieldsville Country School and graduated from Montgomery High School. Marie married George J. Kotek Jr. on February 13, 1956. They had seven children together and he later preceded her in death on August 15, 2012. Marie worked at the Faribault Regional Center for thirty five years until her retirement in 1997. She was active in the American Red Cross, was past-President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1562 Auxiliary, and volunteered for many civic organizations. Marie was dedicated to her children and truly enjoyed spending quality time with her family. She enjoyed continual learning from reading and writing short stories, often sharing with family and friends. Marie was a woman of great faith, always giving of herself through donating or volunteering her time. Her unsurpassed willingness and actions to help others was always commendable.
She is survived by six children, Herbert Kotek, Linda (Jim) Ackman, Mary Kay (Mark) Sisler, Paul (Pam) Kotek, Roxanne Kotek and Jerry (Kate) Kotek; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Kristopher, and Matthew Kotek, Nicole and Jennifer Ackman, Cory (Kayla) Sisler and Sean Sisler, and Jessica (Conor) McKeown and Erik Kotek; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Kotek Jr.; son in infancy, Francis Michael Kotek; parents and brother, Robert (Eleanor) Hickey.
