Marian L. Degner-Mathwig, age 81 of Waldorf, died on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf with Rev. Michael Mathews officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery following services. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Marian Lois was born on May 7, 1927 in Vivian Township, Waseca County to Carl and Marie (Radtke) Bleck. She was a 1945 graduate of Waldorf High School, and a 1947 graduate of Mankato Teacher's College. She was united in marriage to Marvin John Degner on August 17, 1948 at Zoar's Church in Vivian Township, Waseca County. Marian and Marvin lived north of Waldorf, and for 31 years Marian taught 2nd grade in Waldorf, and later Waldorf-Pemberton School Dist. Following Marvin's death in 1993, Marian moved into Waldorf. On November 12, 1999 Marian married Henry Elmer Mathwig at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. Marian and Henry have continued to make their home in Waldorf. Marian was involved in many church activities at her church, First Lutheran Church in Waldorf. She was also a member in the Waldorf Senior's Club, the Waldorf Petal Pushers Garden Club, Waseca County Retired Teacher's Association and various other retired teachers organizations. Marian enjoyed old time dancing, and traveling the country. She is survived by her husband Henry of Waldorf; by her son John Degner of Wells and his wife Deborah of Duluth, MN; by her grandson James Degner of Minneapolis, MN; by her step children Charles (Salle) Mathwig of Eagle River, AK, Beverly (Daniel) Christiaens of Butte, MT, Barbara (Anthony) Ubl of New Ulm, MN, and Mary (David) Hennegar of Mankato, MN; by 10 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great grandchildren; by her sisters Margaret (Lavern) Ewert of Waldorf and Fanchon (Mervin) Ellwood of Willmar, MN, and her brother Dean (Mary Lou) Radtke of Bena, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband Marvin in 1993; by her step-son Rick Mathwig. Casketbearers are: John Degner, James Degner, Dean Radtke, Mervin Ellwood, Anthony Ubl, and David Hennegar.
