Margaret Elnora Orvik, age 99, of Faribault, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault with the Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the Fairview Cemetery in Beltrami, MN.
Visitation will be held at the new location of Parker Kohl Funeral Home, 1725 Lyndale Ave. N. in Faribault on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
Margaret was born on April 6, 1918 in Crookston, Polk County, MN to Martin "Reis" and Huldah (Olson) Skaug of Beltrami, MN. Margaret lived most of her childhood on the family farm still operated by family today. She graduated high school in 1936 and attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS, living with Lillian & Jack Lachenmeier. She graduated from Moorhead State with her degree in elementary education and took additional classes at the University of Minnesota. While teaching school in Neilsville, MN she met and married Leroy Orvik, June 12, 1942 in Crookston. Leroy served in the U.S. Army. Two children were born to this couple, Jill Lenore and Mark Leroy. They lived in several communities and would settle in Faribault where Margaret was a special education teacher working with the sight impaired and with sign language for the hearing challenged children.
Margaret enjoyed escaping Minnesota winters with travels to Mesa, AZ and Oregon visiting with Aunt Marion (Pete) Gill. A Hawaiian cruise was a special trip and a cruise to Norway with a friend. She has Scandinavian heritage with family living in Sweden and ancestors in Bodo, Norway. Her loves included her home, family and many pets. She did excellent needlework, now enjoyed by all the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984 and brother Marvin in 2011.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill Orvik of Faribault, who was her companion and caregiver for many years. By her son, Mark and wife Susan, of New Prague, MN. Grandson, Ben (Kailah) Roehl of Carver, MN and great granddaughter, Willow. By her sister-in-law, Ann Skaug of Fertile, MN and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
