Lowell J. Hellevik Jr., age 85 of Faribault, MN passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following a brief illness.
Lowell John, the son of Lowell John and Mary Lucille (McInnis) Hellevik, was born on October 4, 1938, in Faribault, MN. Lowell grew up in rural Medford and graduated from Medford High School with the Class of 1956. Following graduation, he worked for the Medford Creamery before enlisting in the United States Army in 1961. He was honorably discharged and served in the Army Reserves until 1967. During that time, he met the love of his life, Joan Spinler, on a blind date at the Steele County Free Fair and they were united in marriage shortly after on January 16, 1965, at Christ the King Church in Medford. Lowell worked for the Owatonna and Faribault Canning Companies for many years and then as a Boiler Operator/Engineer for the Minnesota State Hospital until it closed and then the Minnesota Correctional Facility. While he wasn’t working, Lowell enjoyed farming, collecting John Deere tractors, listening to Old Time Music, fixing things, taking care of his cats, Muff and Sarah, and spending time with his friends and family. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Lowell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan; children, Brian (Amy) Hellevik and their children, Justin (Anna), Emma (Marcus) Oyloe, and Jacob, Jeff (Lisa) Hellevik and their children, Tanner and Carter, Melissa Hellevik-Ramos (Isidro) and their children, Rebecca, Madison, Benjamin, and Miranda, Jeremy (Simona) Hellevik, and their son, Dwight, and Wesley Hellevik; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Parker, and Nora Hellevik; sister-in-law, Linda Hellevik; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rose Mary Hildebrandt; brothers, Frank Hellevik and Donald (Anna) Hellevik; and uncle, John “Bud” McInnis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 10:30 A.M. at Christ the King Church, Medford with Father Joe Pete officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Medford with Military Honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at church prior to Mass. There will be a rosary held by the Knights of Columbus starting at 9:00 A.M. at church.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory.
