Lois J. Peters, age 83 of Medford, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 10:30 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault, MN with Dr. Michael J. Nirva, Pastor officiating. Interment will be held at the Union Cemetery in Medford, MN.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services.
Lois Jean Karsten, the daughter of William and Sylvia (Rosenthal) Karsten, was born on November 3, 1933 in Waseca, MN. She attended Medford High School and graduated with the class of 1951. On October 27, 1952 she was united in marriage to Herbert Peters at the Blooming Grove Methodist Church. After their marriage Lois worked at St. Lucas Care Center along with raising their family on their farm on the county line. On Nov. 27, 1971 Herb preceded her in death. After Herb's death Lois worked at Och's Department Store and later worked for 20 years at OTC in Owatonna in the mailroom and as a custodian. Lois also gained a life companion of 18 years, Melvin Kanzenbach Sr., and shared many enjoyable times with him and his family. Lois was an avid card player and enjoyed a good game of cards. She also enjoyed writing letters, sending cards, writing in her journal, singing the Lord's Prayer at weddings, being a greeter at church and especially enjoyed time spent with all of her family. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Kenyon, MN.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Doug) Elwood, of Medford, MN, Pam (Ralph) Brooks of Faribault, MN and Ken (Linda) Peters of Medford, MN; by 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; by her brother-in-law, Calvin (Dixie) Peters of Warsaw, MN; by sisters-in-law, Marna Peters of Hill City, MN, JoAnn Peters of Faribault, MN and Violet Peters of Owatonna, MN and by many nieces and nephews; by Mel's children, Derric (Vicki) Kanzenbach, Diane Kanzenbach, Melvin Jr. (Angie) Kanzenbach and Debbie (Wayne) Pumper, all of Faribault, MN and his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Doris Ferguson, three brothers, Clare, Willard and Lowell Karsten and by her companion Melvin Kanzenbach Sr.
