Leona M. Rafdal, age 86 of Rochester, MN and formerly of Medford, MN, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at her home following an extended illness.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault with the Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at the Union Cemetery in Medford, MN.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.
Leona Marcella, the daughter of Joseph and Golda (Matz) Kavitz, was born on February 21, 1932 in Deerfield Township, Steele County, MN. She attended Medford High School and graduated with the class of 1949. Growing up on the farm, Leona helped with the daily chores that needed to be done each day. On April 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to Arnold Voll. Arnold preceded her in death on January 25, 1953. After Arnold’s passing, Leona began working at Federated Insurance in Owatonna. On May 28, 1955 Leona married Donald Rafdal at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault. After their marriage they resided in Medford, MN. Don preceded her in death on August 21, 1995. Leona worked at different businesses in Medford including the Medford Schools in food service and the Medford State Bank. Later she would work at Gopher Athletic and the Salvation Army, both in Owatonna. In retirement she continued volunteering at the Salvation Army. Leona was a member of the Kitcheneers in Medford and the Christian Women’s Club at First English Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and especially spending time with all of her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Robert) McKean of Parker, CO, Debra Rafdal of San Diego, CA, Pamela Curry of Rochester, MN and Tracy (Todd) Jerzak of Rochester, MN; by six grandchildren, Christopher LaBarre, Sheena Curry, Chad (Amanda) Curry, Zachary Curry, Joshua Curry and Karlee Jerzak; by three great grandchildren, Shane, Killian and Adeline Curry and by other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and two brothers, Anthony and Marvin Kavitz.
