Leona (Mrs. Robert) Ackman, age 85, of Faribault, passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault after a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church (139 Mercy Drive) in Faribault with the Rev. Erik Lundgren, officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Leona Gertrude Kramer, the daughter of Jacob & Mary Agusta (Elfert) Kramer, was born on September 18, 1925 in Alexandria, South Dakota. She attended various country schools in the area. On June 8, 1943, Leona was united in marriage to Robert Ackman at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Faribault. Together, they raised five boys on the family farm. In later years they enjoyed spending time at their home on Cannon Lake. Robert preceded in her in death on September 16, 2008. Leona was a member of the American Legion Post 43Auxilary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1562 Auxiliary, the Daughters of Isabella and the Council of Catholic Women. With her great attention to detail, Leona was a very active and influential member in many different capacities. She is survived by her five sons, Louis (Judy) of Faribault, Richard (Sue) of Hendersonville, NC, Don (Linda K.) of Shoreview, MN, Jim (Linda M.) of Faribault, and Charles (Karen) of Faribault; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister Frances (Angelo) Crandall of Austin, Minnesota and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and six siblings.
