Lawrence P. "Larry" Malecha

Lawrence P. “Larry” Malecha, age 85, of Faribault, MN, passed away November 4, 2023, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Lawrence Patrick was born on March 16, 1938, in Erin Township, Rice County, MN, to Joseph V. and Emma (Pivec) Malecha.  Larry graduated from Northfield High School with the class of 1955, then served in the U.S. Army from 1955 – 1958.  He was united in marriage to Eileen Cihak on November 8, 1958, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Hazelwood, MN.  Larry worked for Farmers Insurance Group as an auto damage adjuster for 31 years.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening, and was a Twins fan.  He loved polka music and played in a band for years.  Larry and Eileen enjoyed camping, traveled to 48 states, and made numerous trips to Branson.  They were the coordinators of the funeral escort program with the Senior Center for many years.  Larry was very handy and resourceful at fixing many things.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Eileen Malecha; brother, Myles Malecha (Phyllis) many very special nieces and nephews; and in-laws, June Tupy, Jim Cihak (Connie), and Barb Malecha (Butch).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emma; sisters, Emma Trnka, Mayme Trnka, Irene Budin, Celia Machacek, and Julie Malecha; and brother, Joe S. Malecha.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault.  Interment with military honors will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale, MN.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice in memory of Larry.
