Lawrence Edward Orr age 91, passed away on February 22, 2019 after having lived a wonderful life.
Larry was born at St. Lucas Hospital in Faribault on July 2, 1927. Remarkably he lived his final years at Sheltering Arms in the building where he was born.
Larry spent his early years in Dundas on the Orr Family dairy farm. In 1940 his family moved to Faribault. Upon his graduation from Faribault High School in 1946 Larry was drafted into the US Army and served during the final days of WWII in Japan. Larry was called to serve again in the Korean War and was assigned to Morgue duty. After the war he came home and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mortuary Science. On the day of his return from the Korean War Larry bought a car and went to a local dance hall where he met his future wife of 55 years Lillas Jeanette Andersen until she passed on January 26th,2010.
Larry and Lillas were married on February 13, 1954 at Immaculate Conception Church. They moved to St. Paul where their 5 daughters were born. The family moved back to Faribault in 1966, and Larry went to work for Parker Funeral Home. Eventually it became the Parker Kohl Funeral Home where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Larry was very dedicated to his work and continued education over the years. He became certified in eye enucleations and went on to earn the Melvin Jones award from the Lions Club of America for this skill, he displayed this award with pride. Larry was a lifelong member to many area service clubs including the Eagles, Lions, American Legion, Elks and the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, where he served as the Faithful Navigator for a time.
Larry and Lillas enjoyed dancing, traveling and being with friends and family. Together they planned annual family vacations "up north" so he could teach all his girls how to fish, one of his favorite pastimes.
He is survived by his five daughters, Denise (and Terry) Erickson of Winona, Alane (and Peter) Aube of Bemidji, Merry (and José Luis) Mendoza of Faribault, Joli (and John) Weber of Lambertville, New Jersey, and Miki Orr (Max Campbell) of Faribault.
