Lawrence "Larry" Matthies

Lawrence “Larry” Matthies, age 74, of Faribault, MN, passed away June 26, 2023, at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, MN.

Lawrence Adrian was born on June 23, 1949, in Cannon City Township, Rice County, MN, to Ronald and Josephine (Maas) Matthies.  He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1968.  He served in the U.S. Navy and traveled to many destinations.  Larry attended Faribault Vo-Tech after he was discharged from the military.  For many years he worked at Ryt-Way Packaging in Northfield and Lakeville.  Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, eating out, road trip travels, and spending time with family.  He also enjoyed playing cards, swimming, dancing, going for walks, and listening to 60’s music.

He is survived by his siblings, Mary Ann Thompson of Faribault, Richard “Dick” Matthies (Sandy) of Bloomington, MN, JoAnn Murphy (fiancé, Dan Long) of Aurora, CO, Jan Odegard (Larry) of Northfield, MN, and Dale Matthies (Deb) of Merrifield, MN; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Jo; brother, Michael Matthies; brothers-in-law, Frank “Butch” Thompson, James “Jim” Bahe, and Bernie Murphy; nephew, Mark Matthies; and great nephew, Dillon Bendt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church.  Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.
