LaVerne L. Doss, age 75 of Waseca, died on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at his home in Waseca. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca with Rev. Cary Larson officiating. Interment with military honors will be held in Woodville Cemetery, Waseca. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services at church. LaVerne Leroy was born on December 17, 1935 to Carl and Elsie (Schaetzke) Doss in Mankato, Minnesota. He was baptized on January 5, 1936 at his home in Pemberton and was confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alma City on June 5, 1949. LaVerne graduated in 1953 from Pemberton High School. He entered military service on March 1, 1955 in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Germany during his tour of duty. LaVerne was honorably discharged on February 3, 1958. He returned home, and on September 17, 1960 he was united in marriage to Gloria Jayne Holtz at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waseca. LaVerne and Gloria raised their family and resided in Waseca their entire married life. He was employed for 30 years with OMC (Mustang Manufacturing) in Owatonna, and for 6 ½ years as custodian at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waseca. LaVerne was a founding member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca, the Waseca American Legion Post #228, and volunteered his time to the Waseca Area Neighborhood Service Center. He enjoyed time spent playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching sporting events, traveling and walking around Loon Lake in Waseca. He is survived by his wife Gloria; by his children Bradley Doss of Austin, Brenda (Dan) Yokiel of Waseca, and Becky (Murray) Prins of Gig Harbor, WA; by his grandchildren, Kyle Doss, Cameron Prins, Ashley Prins, and Sarah Prins, and by his great granddaughter Jaelyn Doss; by his step grandchildren Chris Yokiel and fiancé Amber Anderson, Chad Yokiel and fiancé Brittany VanReese, and Sara Yokiel, and his step great grandchildren Emma and Mya Yokiel; by his sister Delores Lau of Waseca; by his brother-in-law Dick (Bev) Holtz and sister-in-law Pam (David) Tappe; by nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law Marvin Lau; father-in-law and mother-in-law Louis and Evelyn (Kormann) Holtz, and his nephews David Lau and Ambrose "Amby" Tappe. Casketbearers are: Kyle Doss, Cameron Prins, Chris Yokiel, Chad Yokiel, Todd Holtz, Corey Holtz, Eric Tappe, and Robert Lau. Honorary bearers are: Ashley Prins, Sarah Prins, Sara Yokiel, Amber Anderson, and Brittany VanReese.
