Larry Nelson

Larry D. Nelson, age 67, of Waldorf passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems Hospital in Mankato.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf with Pastor Michael Mathews officiating. Interment will be held at First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Waldorf.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Larry Dene, son of Howard and Dorothy (Huxford) Nelson, was born on March 9, 1949 in Waseca, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. Larry attended and graduated from Waldorf-Pemberton High School in 1967. On August 1, 1970, he was united in marriage to Marlys Schonrock at St. John's Lutheran Church in St. Clair. Larry worked at H&C Electric and Minnesota Electric before retiring in 2003 from Midwest Wireless. He served on the finance board at First Lutheran, where he was a lifelong member. Larry enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle, traveling, and Nascar. He had a good sense of humor and he loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Faith and family were very important to him.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marlys Nelson of Waldorf; children, Lance Nelson (fiancé, Stephanie Hummer) of Crosby, MN, Brian (Renee) Nelson of Mapleton, and Beth (Andrew) Weimert of Madison Lake; grandchildren, Kobe, Nevaeh, and Kena Weimert; sisters, Kathy (David) Twa of Woodbury and Jan McNelly of Cottage Grove; sister-in-law, Janice (Jim) Johnston of Warren; aunt, Lorraine Nelson; many nieces and nephews; granddog, Gander; and by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Jeanette Nelson; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Georgia Jennings; sister, Patty Ohman; and father and mother-in-law, Merlin and Lita Schonrock.
